In this article, I focus on place-making in situations of displacement from the perspective of migrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo who live in São Paulo. Drawing on ethnographic research, I analyze the experiences of female migrants in a working place and in an evangelic church. I aim to show how migrants (trans)form places in the city, how they become part of existing networks and what difficulties they face in a surrounding shaped by unequal power relations.
