Types and structure of documents

The journal REMHU is divided into four sections, besides the Editorial.

EDITORIAL: It is written in Portuguese and English by the Editor-in-Chief or an invited researcher.

DOSSIER: this section is written on a specific theme related to migration at an international level. This section is composed by research articles and review articles that offer different academic perspectives on the subject and, depending on the case, may include sociological, psychological, anthropological, demographical, ethnological, juridical, statistical, theological, and pastoral approaches, among others.

The manuscripts should have between 35 and 50 thousand characters with spaces, including the abstract (up to 150 words) and keywords (3 to 5) in the original language of the article, the abstract and keywords in English, besides information about the author(s) academic background.

ARTICLES: this section includes research articles and review articles on any theme related to the universe of human mobility.

REPORTS AND REFLECTIONS: the third section, "Reports and reflections", includes communications, essays, discussions, and case reports on the phenomenon of migration and the socio-pastoral service to migrants and refugees.

The texts should have up to 20 thousand characters with spaces, without abstract, but with the final bibliography.

REVIEWS: this last section includes critical reviews of recent publications on topics related to migration. The texts, in addition to summarizing the works, must introduce new knowledge and stimulate discussions on the subject.

The manuscripts, with up to 10.000 characters with spaces, should include the complete bibliographical reference to the cited work, the final bibliography, besides information about the author's academic background.

 

Authors’ contribution

In the case of two or more authors, the contribution of each author must be informed in accordance with the attached form.

Any change (addition, deletion or reorganisation) in authorship must be communicated before the manuscript is accepted.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1) The contribution must be original, unpublished, and should not have been submitted to or published in another journal or elsewhere.

- The following papers are not considered original: those fully or partially published online; parts of thesis or dissertations; texts already published in another language; and texts published as scientific conference proceedings, except when they have been substantially improved due to posterior debates and studies – in this case, please inform the Editor during submission through "Comments to the Editor": Editor shall decide on the acceptance of the article.

- It is allowed to send a previously published manuscript on a Preprint Platform (preprints.scielo.org, SocArXiv, and SSRN), provided they have not been submitted to peer review in another journal simultaneously. In this case, the author will need to communicate it to the editors at the time of submission, complete and attach the Open Science Compliance SciELO-Preprints form with the files submitted for evaluation and must inform their online location (link, DOI etc.).

 

2) The text file:

- should discuss themes related to migrations, refugees, and similar topics.

- is written in Portuguese, English, Italian, Spanish, or French.

- should be submitted in Microsoft Word format, with no identification of the authors, guaranteeing anonymity.

- must have a maximum of 3 (three) authors, who should have at least a master's degree for the sections "Dossiers" and "Articles". Papers from master's students may be accepted as long as they have been jointly written with PhDs. The author submitting the article confirms that the co-authors are aware of the submission. After submission, the inclusion or exclusion of co-authors will not be accepted.

3) The paper submitted to the sections "Articles" and "Dossiers" should include, both in the original language and in English: 1) title; 2) abstract up to 150 words; and 3) 3 to 5 keywords.

4) A separate page  should be uploaded, including: a) the title of the paper in the original language and in English; b) the name(s) of the author(s) (in the case of multiple authors, indicate the names of the authors in order of responsibility for the work and a brief curriculum vitae); c) information about the author(s) (profession, affiliation, academic title, mailing address, and e-mail); d) in the case of a manuscript written by 2 or more authors, a declaration stating the individual contribution of each author; e) ORCID of all authors; f) Conflicts of Interest Declaration.

5) The authors are attaching the open science form and, whenever relevant, the statement of approval from the Research Ethics Committee from the responsible institution.

6) The paper should follow the style and reference guidelines described in “General guidelines for manuscript submission”.

 

Submissions

1) General guidelines for manuscript submission

Manuscript format: simple space, A4, Times New Roman, font size 12.

Manuscript size: between 35,000 and 50,000 characters with spaces for the articles in the sections "Dossier" and "Articles" (including Abstract in original language and in English, footnotes, and up to one page with references); between 10 and 20 thousand characters with spaces for the section "Reports and Reflections"; and up to 10,000 characters with spaces for the section "Reviews".

Tables: should be included in the body of text, numbered sequentially with Arabic numbers, with indication of reference and/or authorship. For formatting, the graphics should also be sent in Excel.

Graphics: should follow the same guidelines as for tables. For formatting, the graphics should also be sent in Excel.

Figures, photos, and illustrations: should be sequentially numbered with Arabic numbers and sent in as separate, high-resolutionfiles.

On the first occurrence of an acronym or an abbreviation, please spell out the full term first. Do not use acronyms or abbreviations in the abstract or in the title of the article.

 

2) References in the body of text

Bibliographical references should be made, in general terms, according to the Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas – ABNT.

Citations in the body of text should be made by the author-date.

In indirect citations use author's name ( Author's Last Name, full name) (or entity responsible) and year of publication. If there is more than one work by the same author in the same year, use a, b, c immediately after the date. If the author's name is already mencioned in a sentence, include only the date in parentheses.

In citations of references with two authors, indicate the Surnames separated by a comma (,) and the year of publication. Use semi-colon (;) to separate more source.

e.g..:  (Durand, Massey,  2001)

e.g..:  (Sayad 1986; Castles, Miller 2012)

 

In citations of references with more than two authors, put the, Author's Last Name of the first author, followed by the expression “et al. ” and the year of publication.

e.g.:  (Zanini et al., 2017).

 

Direct quotations with up to 3 lines must be placed in the body of the text, between double quotation marks ("..."), no italics, with (, Author's Last Name, year and page).

e.g.:  ... “è doveroso distinguere il concetto di globalizzazione tra progetto político e processo economico” (  Castles, Miller, 2012, p. 79).

 

Direct citations with more than 3 lines should be placed in a separate paragraph (with 2 cm indent), no quotation marks, no italic, with (, Author's Last Name, year and page).

 

All referenced works should be listed in the references.

 

3) References at the end of the article

Should come at the end of the article. Include only the references of the authors mentioned in the text, in alphabetical order by last name. In case of more than one reference of the same author, list works in order of year of publication (oldest first). In cases where there are several works of the same author and year of publication, assign lowercase letters after the year of publication (a, b, c, etc.).

Chapter of a book: AUTHOR'S LAST NAME, first name. Title of chapter: subtitle. In: EDITOR LAST NAME, first name. Title (in black): subtitle. Place of publication: Publisher, publication year, first and last pages of the cited chapter.

  • Il manoscritto proposto:

    - approfondisce tematiche legate a migrazioni, asilo e temi simili.

    - è scritto in portoghese, inglese, italiano, spagnolo o francese.

    - è in formato Microsoft Word, senza l'identificazione dell'autore dell'articolo, garantendo, in questo modo, la doppia revisione anonima tra pari (peer review).

    - ha un massimo di 3 (tre) autori , con formazione accademica minima di laurea (per le sezioni "Dossier" e "Articoli").

  • L'articolo sottoposto alle sezioni "Articoli" e "Dossier" include nella lingua in cui è scritto e in inglese: 1) titolo; 2) abstract fino a 150 parole; 3) da 3 a 5 parole chiave.

  • Compilare e allegare il Modulo di Sottomissione dei Manoscritti (inglese) (copiare il link: https://remhu.csem.org.br/index.php/remhu/libraryFiles/downloadPublic/24 ):

    a) titolo dell'articolo in lingua originale e in inglese;

    b) nota dell'autore (in caso di più autori indicare il nome degli autori in ordine di responsabilità nell'elaborazione dell'articolo);

    c) descrizione degli autori (vincolo istituzionale, formazione accademica, indirizzo postale e e-mail);

    d) in caso di manoscritto scritto da 2 o più autori , una dichiarazione che informi il contributo individuale di ciascun autore;
