This article aims to analyse the entrepreneurial initiatives of migrants in Angola, highlighting their contribution to both the Angolan economy and the economies of their countries of origin. This analysis is also relevant as it challenges the notion that migrants are “parasites”. The article is divided into three parts: the first concerns economic growth and migration flows to Angola; the second addresses the economic sectors in which migrants develop their business initiatives; the third analyses the particularities of Luanda, which accounts for 75% of these initiatives, as well as the peculiarities of the Angola’s labour market. The three parts are preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion: the introduction highlights the context of the migrants’ arrival, and the conclusion presents the future prospects for their business initiatives. This article is based on participant observation and bibliographic research.
