Abstract

This study explores the intersection between lifestyle migration and international student mobility, focusing on the experiences of Brazilian international students in Lisbon. We analyse how their lifestyle aspirations influenced their choice of Lisbon as a destination. Through ethnography and interviews, the findings reveal that, although these aspirations often align with the ideals of lifestyle migration linked to the everyday life of a cosmopolitan city, Brazilian students face challenges such as rising living costs and xenophobia. The study highlights the importance of considering the lived realities of migrants, in addition to their expectations, and identifies gaps in the literature, suggesting the need for further research on the impact of these aspirations in urban contexts. We contribute to the theoretical advancement of transnational migration studies by proposing a reflection on the intersections between lifestyle and student mobility.
